The day started with rain and raincoats, and by 11:30am the sun came out and what a wonderful warm sunny day it turned out to be – for both the Poker Run and the Corn Roast in the evening! 61 teams competed for the Magnetawan Building Centre’s wonderful prize of 2 beautiful Muskoka chairs – white with red trim and a red maple leaf on the back panels.
In 2017 the Poker Run event raised $440.00. In 2018 is was $630 and this year another $600 for the Burk’s Falls and District Food Bank. This just shows what a little bit of sunshine can do!
Each year since the inception of the poker run the Magnetawan Building Centre has donated an awesome prize. For the past many years Port Carmen Marina has also hosted a BBQ hot dog lunch with the proceeds also being donated to the food bank. Thank you all for supporting your local businesses.
There were 7 host docks scattered around the lake which made this an exciting event. Some were water access only, some had road access, some were at the south end of the lake, some in the middle, and one down closer to the Light House. The docks are the key to the success so if you have hosted in the past, you know how much fun it is! If you wish to be a host, please contact Mike at 20 or 705-828-1279 to reserve your spot for next year’s “2020 host dock” list.
Dave Kinsey, standing in for his dad announced the winner of the Poker Run with a royal flush beating out a full house! 61 poker teams competed, from 50 or more boats, raising $600 for the Burk’s Falls Food Bank. Team Myles – Dave Sankey, Courtney, Myles and Paul Wade and Derek Ganz of Watson Island took home the two beautiful Muskoka Chairs.
A big “Thank you” goes to Brenda and Alan and the Magnetawan Home Building Centre for their support and thoughtfulness. Also to Port Carmen marina for providing the lunch for the participants. Congratulations to Team Myles, and to Dave and Mike Kinsey and their team of host docks. Thanks also to all our poker “teams” – we couldn’t have done this without you!! It was a lot of fun and everyone had a great time.
