CWA’S 20th ANNUAL CORN ROAST – Saturday August 17th, 2019

Looking back one year, my report on the Corn Roast talks of wonderful weather and its sunny warm temperature. This year was the same! With 145-150 people in attendance almost identical as well. The experience at Chris and Ann Johnston’s place on Chapman Drive was all that our association could wish. And although they were in the midst of adding an addition to their home, there was still lots of room and everyone felt quite at home. And to top it all off, WE HAD CORN!!!! In 2018 there was a fire ban in place and we had to substitute veggies in place of the corn so this year was so much better. Many thanks to Chris and Ann and their family for all the support setting up and taking down and helping in between. And for being such wonderful hosts.

Peggy Frederikse headed the food committee along with Carol Koebel, Sue Hewlett and myself. Norm Cameron headed up the setup and takedown crews. Both operations worked well as always because lots of volunteers make light work. Having our storage unit modernized to handle all the storage and un-storage easily was also a help, so thanks again to that crew. Volunteer chefs Stan Koebel and Bob Thorp were kept busy with all the burgers and hot dogs with very few left over. Logan Naftel brought and managed the CWA’s red wine as usual, CWA did the white and Darin Hoar brought the beer keg and the gear that goes with it.

Dave Kinsey, standing in for his dad announced the winners of the Poker Run, with a royal flush beating out a full house. 61 teams took part and raised $600 for the Burk’s Falls Food Bank (one team competed in a non-powered vessel so their poker hand was free!) Team Myles – Dave Sankey, Courtney, Myles and Paul Wade and Derek Ganz of Watson Island took home the prize of two beautiful Muskoka Chairs – white with a red maple leaf, donated by Brenda and Allan Fraser from the Mag Home Building Centre. Thank you Brenda and Allan for your support, and congratulations to Mike and Dave Kinsey and their team of host docks.

Be sure to check out the photos in the photo gallery on the website. Many thanks to all the volunteers and to all our attendees. It was again one of the best corn roasts to date!
